Linear Guides for CNC Routers and Engraving Machines — MGN and HG

Router and engraving machines run light loads at high speed, so the guide is chosen for smoothness and compactness rather than load rating. MGN miniature guides handle the gantry and Z axis; HG guides take the heavier table axes on larger machines.

What goes wrong on this axis

  • Vibration and chatter at high traverse speeds
  • Dust from wood, MDF and acrylic getting under the wipers
  • Space around the gantry where a full-size HG block will not fit

Recommended series

MGN miniature guide

7 to 15 mm blocks for gantries and Z axes; standard and extended block lengths.

HG ball guide

15 to 25 mm for heavier tables and longer strokes.

Q1 self-lubricating guide

For machines where re-greasing is impractical.

FAQ

MGN12C or MGN12H for a router gantry? The C block is shorter and stiffer for its size; the H block is longer and carries more moment, which helps when the Z axis hangs out on one side. Both run on the same MGN R12 rail.
Do I need dust protection on a wood router?Dust protection pays for itself on MDF and hardwood. ZZ is the usual starting point; KK adds a metal scraper for heavy chips.
Can the rail be drilled to my hole pattern?Standard hole pitch is fixed by the rail size. Tell us the stroke and we will lay out the joint and end distances for you.
